Special Topics in Gifted EducationSome topics come up again and again in Gifted Education: The At Risk Gifted Student, whether by socio-economic status, race, or other minority status. These risks can affect all aspects of the child's gifted status, from identification to programming to specific subjects including math. Multi-Cultural Gifted Students (or ELL, ESL, LEP, CLD, no matter what the "label" is today) have serious issues, with gifted identification measures often written for, and gifted programs geared to serve native English speakers. There are also complications with parents for whom English is not a first language, and for those for whom identification of giftedness is not a cultural priority... Gender Issues affect both boys and girls in gifted population in different ways. Gifted Adults - we are still gifted, even when we are adults. Creatively Gifted children are probably the most overlooked gifted population... here a the few articles on their identification and needs.
