Hoagies' Blog Hop: Giftedness: Just the Facts
Just
the Facts. There are blogs and other opinions, whether in
national newspapers or in some mother-turned-blogger's unofficial
proclamation. Everyone has an opinion about giftedness, gifted
education, gifted as a term, and everything else about giftedness.

say?

When
gifted students feel disconnected from school by
Gail Post in
Gifted Challenges
- There is a widespread assumption that gifted children love going to
school - a place for indulging their intellect and where their talents can

leaving us with a couple of interesting facts and some truths that might
help the uninitiated navigate some of the confusion.
FACT: Gifted in one school district does not guarantee gifted in another...

Giftedness
by the Numbers by
Jill Williford Wurman, Director of Research,
The Grayson School
- Why do we make the effort to hold an event whose purpose is merely
social before we even start the year? Because the gathering of these
children together is crucial — not just to provide sufficient academic and
intellectual challenge, but also for their social-emotional development.
While feeding their brains is imperative, nurturing their social-emotional
development is of equal import, and we know that social-emotional comfort in
a school — especially a small one like ours — is a crucial part of preparing
the ground so they can truly flourish intellectually.
How do we know this? There’s plenty of research to explain where this comes
from, but perhaps the easiest way to understand its fundamental place in a
school for the gifted is through the simplest concept that even our youngest
schoolchildren understand: friendships...
