Gifts to Share: Humanitarian Opportunities for Gifted Families

Have you ever considered giving a milk-producing goat as a gift?  How about protecting a snowy owl, manatee, or polar bear?  With our globally-aware gifted children, sometimes gifts to share with others are the best gifts of all.  There are many local opportunities in your neighborhood.  There are many options; this list is only a starting point.  Look to your child's passion areas, and to your faith associations, for more humanitarian giving ideas.

Last year, my kids sponsored two young mothers' participation in parenting classes through a local children's center.  I was surprised - my kids were only 9 and 13 - they loved the idea, and ended up getting involved in other local women and children's support organizations!  And this year, after helping raise money for several entire Arks at church, they were happy to give a share of a Milk Menagerie.  Let your kids surprise you...

In addition to these national or international programs, there are tons of local charities to choose from.  For example, Cat Angel Network is a no-kill shelter local to us, and my youngest daughter's chose to support these days.  Look for local charities in your kids' passion areas by using Google to search the web, including the child's interest, and your county or state.  You can find a charity that suits your child perfectly!
